If you own a Nokia N8 you are probably running Symbian Anna, if not you should get it. It comes with a faster browser, improved text input, fresh, new icons and the latest version of Ovi Maps.
Symbian Anna significantly enhances the user experience on the Nokia N8 and the first thing you will notice is the menu, with crisp icons and multiple usability enhancements. Now you can swipe between your homescreen’s in real time instead of the old homescreen that moved only after you’ve finished with your swipe. In menu now you can rearrange your icons like on iOS and Android.
Text input has also been improved, typing on the touchscreen is much easier with a split screen, so you can see message threads, webpages, contacts or email view while typing on the virtual QWERTY keypad – now also available in portrait mode. The landscape QWERT keyboard is ok, the keys are big enough even for fast typing.
The usability of the photo gallery has also been improved.
Symbian Anna enhances Nokia Maps with better search functionality, new public transportation routes and the ability to check-in to favorite geo-social network sites like Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter.
Everything works much better, including web browsing – a faster, easier-to-use browser, delivering quicker page loads and improved device navigation allows people to connect more easily to their favorite sites on the go.

The Nokia N8 comes in a fairly large square blue box, inside you will get everything you need to use all the phone features. You’ve got an AC Charger, nice headphones with hardware control buttons and microphone, MicroUSB cable(which by the way can also be used for charging), MicroUSB to female USB adapter, and Mini-HDMI to full HDMI adapter, so you can use a regular cable for connecting your N8 to your HDTV set.
The phone feels very solid in the hand, with an aluminium body and anodised scratch-proof paint. It really is scratch-proof – rubbing keys on it produced no ill-effects, although the slider switch on the side can get its paint rubbed off over time. The only areas of Nokia N8 which are not encased in anodised aluminum are its ends, both top and bottom are covered by slick, super-glossy plastic strips which like most things glossy love’s fingerprints. The battery is non-removable, as the metal body completely encloses it.
On the left side of the phone you will find the microUSB port which remains uncovered, as well as the SIM card and microSD card slots located under two flaps.
On the right-hand side, the N8 has the volume rocker, the screen lock slider and the dedicated camera key. The first two are very comfortable, with great grip and tactility. The camera key has staggered press levels to allow you to only push it down partway for autofocus and a full-press for the shutter. The volume rocker buttons have a little beveled circle on each side so that you can easily feel for them with your fingers without having to look at the device.
The 12 megapixel camera lens is what draws all the attention round back. It doesn’t have a protective cover as that would have added quite a few millimeters more of extra girth. Instead it relies on reinforced glass front lens that Nokia claims is sturdy enough to resist all the abuse the device might get. The other things of interest here are the xenon flash and the loudspeaker.
The top of N8 is where the HDMI port, 3.5mm audio jack and the power button which also handles screen lock and ringing profile. At the bottom of the Nokia N8 features nothing but the Nokia proprietary charger plug. The N8 is well covered in terms of charging options. You can you use either the regular charger or any microUSB charger/data cable you might have at hand.
The front of Nokia N8 is dominated by the 3.5’’ AMOLED display with 360 x 640 resolutin and ~210 ppi pixel density and a fort facing camera of 0.3-megapixel next to it is the proximity sensor. Below the display is a menu key, Nokia didn’t added any hardware call keys as on previous smartphones.
The N8 is priced competitively, has some great features and a stunning camera, it’s probably the best Nokia you’ve ever seen.
